Our Content-Type for https://preview.addons.mozilla.org/z/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/statistics/downloads-day-20100115-20100715.json is: text/json But it should be application/json

I prefer JSON to be readable in the browser. Anything consuming JSON should be able to deal with text JSON.

Sorry for reopening, but I disagree. If the standard says application/json, then you need to fix your browser[1], instead of using the wrong mime type :( [1] https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8207/

As far as I can tell, it is not a standard. http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4627.txt explicitly says it is not a standard. IANA has registered application/json as a valid type but that doesn't mean we have to use it. And I think usability trumps a pseduostandard, especially one that will result in most of the people viewing it being immediately annoyed.
