The new shade of red (and the other colours to a lesser extent) is way too dull/dark in my opinion - kind of like a UI element that's disabled. IMHO if the old colours were too bright, maybe what we're looking for is a more subtle indicator that the tab needs our attention than colouring the title?

I could imagine making them a *little* brighter, but I think its already very much at the limit before it becomes glaring. I personally wouldn't change the colors. http://adobe.ly/1kKH14T (I believe the bottom most slider is brightness) #E63131 (red) #31E631 (green) #E68231 (orange) #3131E6 (blue) If you are trying these colors, be sure to actually test them in instantbird or at least on a gray background, they feel much different that way.
