From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20010913
BuildID: 2001091311
Imported an N4.78 profile (which includes an IMAP mail account). Opened the
Mail/News window and entered my password. The IMAP account was populated with my
IMAP mailboxes, but also a weird "#news" item which is greyed out. This item
appears in the IMAP mailbox list, not a news account list.
The #news folder can be "opened", but its contents are not usable. Subfolders
can opened, but clicking the end "nodes" results in a message that the item
"#news.aus.computers.mac: no such mailbox".
The only thing I can work out is that Mozilla appears to be reading my ".newsrc"
file out of my home directory and using it as a listing of mailboxes. If I
remove my .newsrc, Mozilla does not display this "#news" mailbox.
The hierarchy in my home directory goes:
~/
~/.newsrc
~/mail
~/mail/mailbox1... etc.
My IMAP account has "mail/" in the Server Settings > Advanced > IMAP Server
Directory preference.
Reproducible: Always (under appropriate conditions)
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run the "rn" news reader. Subscribe yourself to some mailing lists
2. Configure an IMAP-based mail account
3. Login to the IMAP account

This is related to bug 61508 which basically is a serious performance
degradation related to the #news "mailbox".

This bug is targeted at a Mac classic platform/OS, which is no longer supported
by mozilla.org. Please re-target it to another platform/OS if this bug applies
there as well or resolve this bug.
I will resolve this bug as WONTFIX in four weeks if no action has been taken.
