Search activity supports SDK 14, and uses SDK 19 to build. To match Fennec, we need to support SDK 8 and build with SDK 17.

Just to clarify, given there is no Google-now on Gingerbread, we don't need to support this Search Activity there do we?

Theoretically we could find another way to launch the search activity on devices that don't have that swipe-up action (another launcher icon maybe?), but I would be okay with us making the search activity an ICS+ feature, especially if it makes development easier.

My firm opinion: no big new features on legacy platforms.

The lack of a "slide up" trigger is not enough to stop Gingerbread support. We plan to have a simple homescreen widget which just launches the activity. So we should support Gingerbread until we find something that makes it not possible.

https://github.com/ericedens/FirefoxSearch/commit/c6c343bcee77377d50ad2cbc58f94458f988baea This was resolved in our transition away from the prototype when Nick setup the build system.
