+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #929365 +++

Once we have the API ready to route all hardware key events to the keyboard app, the built-in keyboard would need some logic to process it so we could enable features like spell check, word suggestions, and Asian IMEs.

The tricky part of this bug will be working with these key events in the correct order and with the correct states. We need some foundation work done (tracked in bug 1023729) before we can do this right.

I am not sure the scope and complexity at the moment though; will we have a key combination where the user could switch between layouts? How to map hardware keyCode to software layout? A UX spec on this will help us investigate the effort.

bug 1015541 comment 2 and onward have some conversation on keeping keyboard state right.
