User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140506152807
Steps to reproduce:
Bookmark a large number of pages, then go to Bookmarks > Bookmarks Toolbar > Name of folder. The folder will not expand to show bookmarks
Actual results:
Bookmarks are not expanding in folders with a large number of bookmarks.
Expected results:
This is similar to bug 540263 but a little different.
I'm using Firefox 29.01 on a Mac. When I have a certain number of bookmarks in a folder, they don't show up at all using this path, for example. This also seems to be random because sometimes a folder with 50 bookmarks will show up properly. However, most the time, folders with less than 15 bookmarks will show up. The screen or window size doesn't make a difference. The position of the folder in the toolbar doesn't effect the issue either.
My workaround has been to create folders within folders within folders. This is a horrible workaround because I can only categorize them specifically to a point.

I'm setting platform back to x86 since I think your actually using an Intel based Mac.
Firefox 29 isn't available for PowerPC OSX (though a port of firefox called TenFourFox does exist/work for PowerPC OSX).
If your actually running on a a PowerPC machine then you can change it back but let us know which port your using (ie TenFourFox)
Hardware: PowerPC → x86_64
Yes, it's an Intel Mac. I thought they were still called Power Macs. I just confirmed that the bug is still present in FoxFire 30.

I couldn't reproduce using latest Nightly 34.0a1 2014-08-06, Win 7 64-bit (the bookmarks list is scrollable).
I confirmed the bug is still present in 34.0a1 - the Mac version. I have no idea if the bug is present in the Windows version. The bookmarks are scrollable until you get to a folder with at least 10 bookmarks. Is there a way for me to send you my bookmarks so you can import them to see if it will reproduce the problem?

I imported the bookmarks links into Nightly 34.0a1 under Mac OSX 10.9.4 and still couldn't reproduce the issue, but I noticed that the length of the drop-down list increases with every new longer description that is added.
To import bookmarks, you can go to Bookmarks - Show all Bookmarks -> Settings -> Export Bookmarks to HTML, make a html doc with them and on the same path, import them into another computer/profile.
Here are the bookmarks that produce the error. They are reproducible every time on some folders.

Thanks for the testcase.
I could reproduce it with some folders and I confirm this bug.
I also discovered that it's the long websites description that produce it. In your screenshot, DVDNow folder is not opened. I opened the folder from Bookmarks library, found that there were 3 links with long description [1] (more than 130 characters), cut and pasted them into Downloads folder, that could be open before doing this. After that, the DVDNow folder could be opened and Downloads not.
[1] DVD Now - DVD Rental Kiosks. Kiosk Manufacturer - Vending machine. - Tunrnkey kiosk solutions - DVD Purchase and/or Rentals
One solution will be to edit and shorten the description until this bug is fixed, but I agree, it's not a pleasant one (here I deleted the last part "- DVD Purchase and/or Rentals " and it worked).
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: Bookmarks won't show up if there are too many in a folder → Bookmarks won't show up if their description is too long in a folder
Great! At least I can create a temporary fix to the bug until it's fixed. There were other folders that didn't open near the bottom (Politics for example). I just shortened the titles from the bookmarked links in that folder and they now open. I suppose the folders with more links simply had a greater chance at having long titles in them and that's why I thought it was an issue with a folder with many bookmarks.
