Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20140605174243 Steps to reproduce: I wanted to get Firefox v30 using the full installer. I downloaded and ran the installer. It looked like things were going fine. I was up to the part where the program was checking the add-ons for issues. It got to about 80 %. Then it got stuck. I waited for some time but it didn't move. I finally canceled and tried opening Firefox. Actual results: Firefox opened, but could not connect to the web. I checked modem, firewall . . . . . I finally found the problem. In the options, I use No Proxy. But somehow, it was changed to use a proxy. After I reselected No Proxy, FF was on line. I would also find that other things were changed as well. For example, my toolbar icons were moved around or removed from the bars. It is possible that the reason the add-on checker didn't finish was because of the bad proxy setting. Expected results: The installer should not have changed any settings unless it was needed for the install. Icon locations and proxy do not even come close.

Probably better as a support question. Did you back up the initial profile before trying this reinstall ?
Had no need. The proxy and icon movements were all I found wrong.

I guess some add-ons were not compatible with 30.0, so if Firefox was successfully updated to 30.0, they don't work. Then their icons must have disappeared (and any icons they have been moving every time moved back).
Since the add-on check locked up, it's hard to tell. But so far I had no trouble on that line. The primary issue is why my proxy setting was changed, which could be the reason the checker locked.

There is no code in the installer that changes settings... it doesn't even touch profiles. This is most likely due to Firefox changing the values.
Component: Installer → General
Summary: Firefox Full Installer Changes User Settings → User settings changed after starting a new version
All I can say is; I did not update, I downloaded the full installer. After installing, the Proxy settings were changed. Note: I had a similar issue with another full installer; Firefox v43 installation auto change "xpinstall.signatures.required" https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1236300 It was false before running the installer.
