User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140605174243
Steps to reproduce:
I installed TB 24.6.0 both on WindowsXP and OSX Mavericks.
Both will read email directly and retry every 1 minute (options).
Actual results:
On XP, if there is email, it is read and displayed instantly,
on OSX it seems that the setting to load email instantly is ignored and and present
email is only loaded and displayed after 60 seconds.
Expected results:
As stated: instant loading of messages.
I didn't notice any other malfunction.

Hi,
I noticed that the Get-Mail button is also dead.
Mail only comes in by the set interval.
Again: this is an OSX-only matter.

I just installed version 31.0 everywhere.
Same bug: on OSX Mavericks pending email doesn't come in within a minute.
On WindowsXP: within a second!
Please do not promote Microsoft this way ....

Concise and clear: The "GetMail" button of Thunderbird does NOT work on OSX.
Did somebody already notice this?

I think I have found something:
When I DO know I have mail (from internet mail) I start Thunderbird: no email comes in.
- Then I click "Get Messages" : no email comes in.
- Then I click the drop-down arrow, on the right side of "Get Messages"; I see: "Get All New Messages".
- I click on it: no email comes in.
Again I click the drop-down arrow; below the former message is my full email address,
- I click my full email address and now pending email comes in directly.
Conclusion: "Get Messages" and the option "Check for new messages at startup" (Server Settings) are NOT
connected to my email address directly: a BUG.

Bug 881114?
Do you have Inbox of "Local Folders" in Tb on Mac OS X?
default account is set as exected?
(mail.accountmanager.defaultaccount=account# in prefs.js, check associated server settings to mail.account.account#.???)

What is "Tb"?
Which part of the Account Settings are you addressing?
;JOOP!
P.S.: I can send you screen shots of the settings.

Ah! Tb is Thunderbird, not toolbox or such.
Well, I looked inside prefs.js ...
account1 is linked to id1, is linked to my email address, so ......
I may expect that I'm not going to edit that file, but use the account settings.

"pointing a bug in bug report at b.m.o" usully imples "read the bug, please".
Same problem as Bug 881114? Or different problem as Bug 881114?
If different, what part is same but what part is different?

I don't see any relation to that 881114 bug, I have Inbox as subdirectory (or folder) under Local Folders.
I can not understand why Tb works fine under WindowsXP and Windows7 (which machines are to be abandoned)
and not on OSX.
May be I don't understand your comment about "default account".

When the fix for bug 881114 happens, then we will have something worth testing. In a few weeks perhaps
Depends on: 881114
Summary: Delay before loading the first incoming message → Check for new mail at startup does not work - Delay before loading the first incoming message

That few weeks grew to more than a year now.
It occurred to me that bug 881114 handles about the absence of an Inbox at Local Folders.
Funny, I had Inbox all the time ....

Can you test the ideas described in bug 589483?
This is a pop account, correct?

Done; I don't understand why TB should work differently (in this respect) on Mac from on MsWindows.

The setting in TB: Tools>Account Settings>Server Settings>Advanced> (O) Include this server ....
seems to solve the problem right away.
Tested with version 45.4.0 on both Sierra 10.12 and El Capitan 10.11.6
