Goal: We want to make loading searches feel as quick and smooth as possible. In addition to making it work as fast as possible in code, we can make it seem even faster to users by choreographing a few different mechanisms: 1. UI Transitions 2. Display fake results 'wireframes' while we wait for results to load 3. Display an animated preloader This is a lo-fi sketch of the flow http://cl.ly/image/0G111E1a3A2T Anthony can add some more detailed animated mocks soon, but this can get the ball rolling at least.
Component: General → Search Activity
Attaching a working mock to show where this is headed... But, I'm currently working through two main issues: 1) The search term sliding upwards seems too much now with the placeholder transitioning in. 2) This looks ok in the mock but (as you'll see with my next post) if it loads fast, the placeholder stuff seems a bit.. much.
When the user is on a good connection, they're more likely to see something like this.
Is the progress bar on the webview being removed?
Flags: needinfo?(alam)
Hey Eric, I'm not really focusing on that here. This bug's scope is less about that and more about this concept of the "skeleton" we talked about when Ian and I were in SF. Designs around specifically the progress bar refinement are tracked in bug 1044262.

This is an ex-Search Activity now (bug 1221344).
