1042784 - Thunderbird UI freezes on sending mail while copying to sent-mail IMAP folder

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/36.0.1985.125 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Send any email. OS X 10.7, Thunderbird 24.6.0 and numerous prior versions.


Actual results:

The UI freezes while sending and while copying to sent folder. This is most obvious with a slow connection.


Expected results:

The UI should continue to function while message sending occurs in the background.

1. Is this your first install of Thunderbird?

2. ANd is it better if you update to version 31?  Do Help | About | update

If by "first install" do you mean have I deleted and reinstalled it before, I don't believe so (certainly not on the PowerPC machine, likely not on the Intel machine).  Both have had plenty of automatic updates applied.

I'm updating to 31, I'll come back after I've sent some emails and see if it's improved.

This is still happening on 31 to some degree, verified on copying a sent message to a sent-mail IMAP folder at least.  The entire UI freezes; if I cmd-tab out and Thunderbird is covered with another window, cmd-tabbing back in doesn't even bring the main UI window (or any of them) up at all, even when the operation finishes - I need to either cmd-tab out and in again or use the Window menu to display the main UI window.  I'm not positive yet if it's happening on all sends.

It seems subjectively maybe a little better, but I've only been using it for a day.

What is the size of the Sent folder?
It is faster if you have started Thunderbird in safe mode per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode ?

Sorry for abandoning this bug. Due to a number of reasons I'm not currently using Thunderbird on this IMAP account, however the size of the Sent folder would have been ~3000 messages back in July by my estimation.
