Right now it's not obvious that they're coming from Yahoo! We should think about ways to incorporate search provider branding into the UI.

I like how desktop does this on the new-tab page: the brand indicator is also a dropdown selector. Two birds.

I'd like it if we could start with something like this first and see how it feels.

The general idea here is two fold. First, there is an icon in the bottom left that has the logo of the search provider in it. In addition to this, I'd like to see if we could use the appropriate brand colors in an underline for history items that were reached with the search provider (purple here because Yahoo is default in this example).

To elaborate and push this idea further, maybe we could do the same for certain sites (like yelp in this example)? Websites that aren't necessarily search "terms" that come via a provider would simply have no underline.

Still working on surfacing branding in the later stages of this flow such as the web view and typing phase.

Thoughts?

History annotation could be interesting, but I think the focus of this bug is a bit different. Specifically: I'm on the results page -- where did these results come from? This is especially important since we are modifying the HTML that is being sent to us.

For this specific bug, I'd envision a logo at the top of the page -- perhaps adjacent to the search bar, or adjacent to the facet buttons.

(This branding would probably be involved in pre-search as well, so folks know where their search terms are heading.)
The designs above are for the pre-search phase so that should inform users where the search terms are heading since it's also the first page they see. I wanted to start off from a reserved angle so it's not really hitting the user over the head with branding cause that's not what this is about.

In terms of a post search phase, the facets should have an underline that is the same on-brand color as the search engine provider.

As far as next steps go, I'm still in the process of coming up with more ideas but as a first iteration I think we should still go with this for now. I've tried playing around with specifically a logo on top but I have some concerns around crowding amongst other things. We can improve this if it becomes a defining feature of the product but for now I'd like us to really focus on the "useful-ness" factor.

The issues you've raised are super valid; can you open two more bugs so that each issue is properly addressed?

1. Attribution of search results [this bug]
2. Attribution of suggestions [new bug]
3. Annotation of history items [new bug]

Just filed bug 1049600 for tracking 3. I'm not sure we need to attribute suggestions as blatantly since they will only be with 1 provider at a time and we don't have a whole lot of space on that screen.

I'm going to have to think about that a bit more.

Oops, wrong bug, sorry.

Right now all results only come from one provider (your default), so I don't think this bug is a P1.
Priority: P1 → --
This is an ex-Search Activity now (bug 1221344).
