Currently, when I'm reading mail and I want to file a message, I click on "File"
on the toolbar or "Move To" in the context menu, and the accounts that show up
there are listed in the order they were created: my netscape.com account, my
netscape.net account, and my aol.com account.
When I am reading mail in my netscape.net account, it would be easier if that
account were listed first in the "File" and "Move To" lists, or whichever
account I'm reading mail in, that account is always listed first in those menus.
This is obviously an RFE.

I think this is an interesting idea. cc'ing jglick for her input. My main
concern would be messing with people's memorization of account placement and
that accounts wouldn't be where they expect it.

I know what you mean. Personally, I'm the other way. I keep a "Done" folder
and I file any important email that I'm done with and don't expect to need (but
you never know) and then clean it out every 3 months per the retention policy.
So when I'm reading any of my non-netscape.com email, I have to fight the
tendency to file my "Done" email in the first account's Done folder. I think it
would be easier if you could count on the first account in the list being the
account you're currently focused in since you'd spend less time figuring out
which account you were in when it comes time to file mail, but if you wanted to
file it in a different account, they're all still there for access..
Agree that changing the order of accounts based on what is currently selected
could cause confusion. We'd probably want to get a feel for how many users would
benefit from this vs. how many would be harmed by it before making this change.
Suggest posting to the newsgroup for feedback.

See also bug 139237 that asks for the folder selection menu to open at the
current folder level as opposed to having to start at the root of the tree.

This would mean reordering the menus every time a mail server (or a folder in a different folder than the current one) is selected.
I expect it is WONTFIX.

I believe trunk Thunderbird is using an alternative method of populating menus which would resolve the problem (although I'm not keen on the current code).
