So I recently set up Sync for the first time.

After apparently getting everything right, I went to my phone and found that my other device wasn't showing up, nor had any of my stuff synced. Humph. That's odd.
So I went into the Sync settings looking for clues. It showed me "Logged in as chriskitching@linux.com", with all the options disabled.

That's confusing. Why has it done that?
After a little while of Googling, it suddenly stopped being disabled. It turned out Sync had been downloading stuff in the background, quietly doing its thing.

I found this quite confusing: it'd be great if the setting screen could display some indication of *why* all the buttons are disabled (ie. it's currently synching, please wait).

This could be as simple as putting a little spinny arrow thing next to the email address. As it is, there was no indication that Sync was working correctly (or at all), which isn't a great user experience.
Yep, this is a reasonable request. It's particularly bad before you've synced once, for the reason you say.
