Since Firefox 29, there seems to be a regression regarding hardware acceleration on my hardware, resulting in graphics artifacts as visible in the screenshots. In Firefox 31 this issue seems to have got even more visible (e.g. occurring more often and more severe). The artifacts seem to be generated when chrome content is updated dynamically (e.g. when highlighting/hovering a button). It does not occur for actual page content. System information: Graphics card: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Driver version: 8.15.10.2555 Note that my card/driver combo actually seems to be on the blacklist for hardware acceleration (probably because of the old driver version, but I'm stuck there because of switchable graphics option in my notebook, which does not allow me to install a newer driver version). Therefore I set "gfx.direct2d.force-enabled;true". Anyway it always worked flawlessly for me prior to Firefox 29, so I assume we actually have some kind of regression there.
Artifacts are visible on the "back" button; above "refresh" and "search" buttons; search engine selection button, upper left corner of the appmenu button
Artifacts are much worse and much more visible in my custom theme

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22167 The last Intel graphics driver released for Intel 4 series is 8.15.10.2869. If you cannot update to it due to switchable graphics then nothing can be done.
I have the same artifacts using Firefox 32.0.3 on my HP 6530B (with the latest driver for Intel GM45 graphics installed). See below for the output of about:support Graphics -------- Adapter Description: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Adapter Drivers: igdumd64 igd10umd64 igdumdx32 igd10umd32 Adapter RAM: Unknown Device ID: 0x2a42 Direct2D Enabled: true DirectWrite Enabled: true (6.2.9200.16492) Driver Date: 10-4-2012 Driver Version: 8.15.10.2869 GPU #2 Active: false GPU Accelerated Windows: 1/1 Direct3D 10 Vendor ID: 0x8086 WebGL Renderer: Google Inc. -- ANGLE (Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Direct3D9Ex vs_3_0 ps_3_0) windowLayerManagerRemote: false AzureCanvasBackend: direct2d AzureContentBackend: direct2d AzureFallbackCanvasBackend: cairo AzureSkiaAccelerated: 0
Could you upgrade your drivers to the latest version (v15.17.19.64.2869) and make a test: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=en&FamilyId=39&ProductID=2991&ProdId=2991

I'm already using the latest version of the driver ("Installs graphics driver version 15.17.19.64.2869 (8.15.10.2869) for Intel® graphics. This driver is intended for developers and IT professionals.").
Flags: needinfo?(bofphile)
And I can't install the latest version due to the switchable graphics driver restricting me to an older version as wrote in the initial bug report... Since bofphile sees the exact same issue with the newest driver version I assume it's an issue with "Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family" graphic processors and not driver dependent?

Same problems on Beta 39?
I don't use beta versions, but I can confirm it still happens on 38.0.5, to which my Firefox updated today.
(In reply to unmei from comment #14) > I don't use beta versions, but I can confirm it still happens on 38.0.5, to > which my Firefox updated today. If you have some time to spend, Beta is available here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/beta/all/ You can download it and use it with a fresh profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
Finally had time to install the beta, the issue still persists on Firefox 39.0b1. Happens in both, previous profile, and in a new, fresh profile, it's the same. Forgot to mention, the machine has a fresh install of Win7 x64.
I have a feeling this bug has been collecting different problems for GMAX4500 series, so it may be difficult to untangle it all. For example, the 8.15.10.2869 is flagged as bad for accelerated video (bug 1155608), but this is something else. Some of the reports were D2D/D3D10, some D2D/D3D11, latest D2D1.1/D3D11.
Hi, I'm having some weird artifacts on 3-4 latest versions of firefox, this is something that happens on facebook, twitter and other sites with Divs and floating menus, sometimes even on drop down menus and lists... here is a new once that happens constantly on my wordpress dashboard: http://oi60.tinypic.com/14lpndk.jpg I have Intel® HD Graphics and I'm running Windows 8.1... Thanks!
We have a G45 in Toronto now. We can look into this at the begining of June. avi.eshedp please file a separate bug with the information from the graphics section of your about:support.
