There should be an option to remove all expired articles located in the menu.
Otherwise, one has to search for a message that cannot be retrieved from the
news server.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Select a newsgroup.
Actual Results: You have to find an expired message to be able to retire all
expired messages.
Expected Results: You should have the option to select "Remove Expired
Articles" from somewhere in the menu.

It's definitely related, and though I'd like to see Mozilla handle this
(eventually) - I wouldn't mind having a house-keeping button in the meantime.
Confirming. But only as an enhancement. I'd rather see this done
automatically...

This option could be put in right-mouse-menu of any group folder in "folders
pane", and maybe additional this option: "main menu" -> "tools" -> "remove all
expired articles in ALL groups"

Well, if you click on the link in an expired article, you can remove all of the expired articles. This is simply done by running a URI, so it's easy to put into an extension. As stephend points out, it would be better to do this as an automatic expiration, via 98534.
