From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:0.9.5) Gecko/20011012 BuildID: 2001101201 I'd like to create a subfolder in a folder allready having subfolders. But the Panel doesn't offer such folders. It only offers folders, having mails in it. On some IMAP Servers this isn't even allowed. Some IMAP-Servers only allow folders with either subfolder or messages. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Select IMAP-Account 2.right-click for context-menu 3.select "New Folder..." Actual Results: Only folders containing Messages are shown but arn't selectable... This results in that you onle can create folders on the top-level, but no subfolders in a folder conaing only subfolders. Expected Results: Folders conataining subfolders should be selectable as folder, in which a new folder should be created. Compare this behavior to that of Netscape 4.7x and you see what I mean.
What kind of the IMAP server are you using? Looks like you are using UW IMAP server, right?
The imapd is of the RedHat Package: imap-4.5-4 Don't know if this is the UW imapd.
[mozilla trunk 2002032221] Marking WORKSFORME I can create subfolders of any folder. Please reopen if you're still seeing this in 0.9.9 or better yet a recent nightly.

Tested creating subfolders in mozilla 0.9.9 Build ID 2002031209 Doesn't work with imap-4.5.4 on RedHat 6.2 Server. (Shows radiobuttons for 'Folders only and Messages Only') Doesn't work with imap.web.de on www.web.de freemail imap server (Doesn't show these radion buttons) The selection panel doesn't show any folders only containing subfolders. Does work with imap of imap.profimailer.de (1und1.de) !!!! Perhaps there's a way to test the implemented features of the imap-servers. Let me repeat: netscapes 4.77 imap mail client works in all three cases.... Sorry :-(

As you can see, in the IMAP Folder Auktion there are subfolder. But the 'New Folder' Panel only shows (unselectable) Folders for Mails but not folder with subfolders for selection. The IMAP Server (imap-4.5.4, RH6.2) only allows folders with either subfolders or mails.
Hey. Don't be sorry. =) I'll test some different servers tomorrow or thursday and see if I can help reproduce this and narrow down the problem. I'll leave it UNCONFIRMED for now
I'm going to confirm this ... I installed imap-4.5 from the src rpm (I had to hack some files to get it to compile since I don't use redhat apparently) When I first ran mozilla, I saw the problem with all foders. I used netscape 4.79 to create some subfolders and it seemed possible. Going back to mozilla, INBOX is the only folder I can't select. Is it possible that the server is telling the client that they can't create subfolders in certain documents ... and maybe netscape 4 gets around it someway? I'll try to find out what's happening.

Ever confirmed: true
Can anyone give more clue to reproduce this bug? I can't reproduce it. Thanks. Henry
I'm using red hat linux 7.1.
Can anyone test this bug again? If it doesn't exist now, let's close it. Henry
All folders and subfolders of IMAP of eins & eins are black and can be selected for subfolder creation: telnet imap.profimailer.de imap Trying 212.227.126.10... Connected to imap.profimailer.de. Escape character is '^]'. * OK Microsoft Exchange 2000 IMAP4rev1 server version 6.0.5762.3 (helga.exchange.xchg) ready.
Why can you create subfolders for imap simtec starting out of contex menu of eins und eins imap server. Keep in mind, that there are imap servers, that allow only folder containing either subfolder or mails, but not mails and subfolders at the same time !!!!! See next attachment in difference of attributes in Create Subfolder Panel !!!
For imap simtec you can olny create either folders containing mails or folders containing subfolder. It's consistent, that you can only create subfolders in folders that contain only folders... but see next attachment...
Again, why should you could select a subfolder of IMAP eins und eins in the context of imap simtec??? And what meaning have the attributes for folder creation on simtec, when I create a folder in eins und eins imap....? Info about simtec imap: telnet 141.99.125.1 imap Trying 141.99.125.1... Connected to 141.99.125.1. Escape character is '^]'. * OK pc001.simtec.mb.uni-siegen.de IMAP4rev1 v12.250 server ready
Look at the new attachments ans see, that you cant create any folder for the simtec imap server and that when starting 'create folder' from simtec context menu there are attributes (only folders, only mails) that can be set for folder creation. But you can also create a subfolder for "imap eins und eins" out of this panel... and how is the attribute used in such case. Now create a subfolder out of the context menu of imap eins und eins. Hey :-) where are the folder options gone... and why could I create subfolder for imap simtec, if I could :-( Please don't close this BUG, it is one !!!! To Henry: I don't think it matters what OS you use for the client....
OK, OK, Michael Möllney, let's make more research on this bug. From your description, it seems that you have several accounts. And one of them (imap eins und eins)can do the create operation, one of them(imap simtec) can't. Right? I also use a imap server that supports folders that can contain either sub-folders or mails just like you said, but I've never seen what you said. So, if it is possible, can you create a account on the imap simtec server for me? Then I can do some work on this issue more easily. Thanks. Henry
To Henry: Thanks for your offer to have a deeper look into the IMAP server on simtec. But I'm sorry, the admin doesn't give accounts to people he doesn't know. But perhaps you could try the same as in comment #7. Perhaps an inconsistence in the create folder panel might be a problem here. THe different attributes of different IMAP servers should be reflected in the panel. But this is only done, when the panel is instanciated... Michael
This bug still exists in version 1.0. Using the standard UW version of IMAP, I can't create a mailbox under an existing folder..

I can confirm this bug is still happening under Windows 2000 with 1.4, using uw-imapd. If necessary, I can provide an account on an imaps server for debugging purposes. To summarise the bug as I see it (since it looks like no-one has touched this one in over a year): UW imapd allows two types of folders. One can hold only other sub folders (henceforth Type 1), one can hold only mails (Type 2). Type 1 is, in the filesystem, a directory. When attempting to create a new folder, the 'Create as a subfolder of' combo box lists only the 'Type 2' folders, which are in fact, unable to contain subfolders. This needs to be reversed to hide the 'Type 2' and display the 'Type 1' folders.
I'm using UW-IMAPD and it works for me. When creating a new folder, the combo box lists all mailboxes, but lets me choose only "Type 1" folders. Using Mozilla 1.4 on Windows 2000, so I wonder what the difference is with james' setup. Maybe James forgot to uncheck "this server supports folders that contain both subfolders and messages" in the advanced settings of the server settings?
Un-checking "this server supports folders that contain both subfolders and messages" changes the behaviour for me, but does not fix it. Now I seem to get a random mixture of the two possible folder types available for selection. I do have a large number of folders and sub-folders on this account, so I'll set up a test account and see if it possibly has something to do with the number of folders there.
I'd like to confirm that this bug still exists in Mozilla 1.5 on Redhat 9 Linux talking to a UW IMAP server (version 2002.332).
There may be a regression here. I just started using www.luxsci.com's IMAP server for my email (migrating from the now-defunct www.sortonce.com). I'm using Mozilla 1.5, on both Windows XP and RedHat Linux 9.0, and have this problem. The LuxSci people say that their server is of the type where folders can contain either subfolders or messages, but not both. According to their tech person, Mozilla 1.4 for Windows has some sort of dialog option to create one of the two types of folders. I see nothing of the sort. So, I'm guessing that either the dialog box regressed for some reason, or else the IMAP-server queries are not getting the right information, but I don't have a 1.4 client handy, nor do I run my own IMAP server to debug to try to figure out where the problem lies. Someone else will have to do that, alas. :) In my case, I can use my service's Webmail interface to create new folders, but this wouldn't be this case for everyone. Some level of urgency seems appropriate. Thanks! -Harlan

TB 1.0.2 still has this issue on one of two IMAP servers I can connect to. I cannot figure out what IMAP server is used on the server with this issue. I will ask my ISP and come back here. The other server that works is imap-2002d-3 (from Univ. of Washington)

I can't reproduce this on T-bird 2.0.0.18 (assuming the bug is filed against T-bird). Your bugzilla product just says "Core" and that's pretty vague. IMAP server is Zimbra 5.0.11.
I was only ever able to repro this against uw-imapd. Unfortunately I'm not running it these days so I don't have an easy facility to re-test. See my comment #20 above for more details.
I can now create a new folder in a subfolder of a subfolder. However, when I try to delete the newly created folder, I get the error message: "The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Target mailbox doesn't allow inferior mailboxes." I am currently running Dovecot 1.0.15-10.
