I'm using ssh tunneling to allow secure access to multiple IMAP accounts. The account manager duplicate checking code doesn't check for the accounts being on the same machine, same username, but on different ports. Possibly related to bug 65715 but that seems to mainly deal with the CCK impact?

I disagree that this is a duplicate of bug 101915. That bug refers to a technical issue with downloading mail through an SSH connection. I meant this bug to describe the requirement for the Mail & Newsgroups account settings to allow mail accounts with the same user name and server name, but on a different port. In the account wizard, the error comes up: "A mail or newsgroup account with the same user name and server name already exists. Click Back and enter a different server name, or click Cancel." If I change the hostname temporarily, and then try to change the settings in the account settings dialog, the error is: "An account with that user name and server name already exists. Please enter a different user name and/or server name." The mention of SSH was just a rationale for why one might need multiple connections to a specific host (in this case, localhost): if all IMAP connections used tunnelled SSH connections to localhost. And I've searched through all "Account Manager" bugs, bug 65715 is still the only one that seems close to this in requirement. severity -> enhancement (if I have permissions to do that) Leaving decision on reopening to somebody else though :-)

Reopening to put bug back on somebody's radar for re-evaluation. Perhaps it is a dupe, but I haven't found one yet (I looked through every open bug in Mail and News recently), and it's certainly not a dupe of bug 101915.

Bug 41929 is about more than one IMAP account on one host. Would that bug solve your problem? pi
