From Bug 1058526 comment 5, we need to use abbrevations with a period in english.

We likely need periods in abbrevations for days too.

That would be my preference, but I'm not sure what the style is for FxOS.

I'm sorry, I don't handle L10N beyond RTL issues in gaia. Is this about abbreviations in Calendar, or something else?

It's especially used in the SMS app, when we receive a MMS and it's not yet downloaded: we display the expiration date that uses an abbreviation for the month. See attachment 8478943 [details] for an example.

I don't know where it's used in other apps but I expect it's used everywhere we want to display a date in this form. I don't think Calendar would benefit from this though.

What do you think guys? I'm not sure how a single cross-app abbreviation may work with l20n's do-not-reuse-l10n-ids policy.

Stephany, I think the question is about en-US copy style here.
"Aug. 14 2014" or "Aug 14 2014" ?
That, and then there's the use-case of "just the month" like in a calendar column, without the surrounding date. "Aug." or "Aug" ?

Gandalf, I fail to unwrap the datetimeformat part from the l20n-toolkit-entity-reference part. In particular given that "until X" could even involve grammar.

This construction also needs a comma:

Matej is correct on English. Also marking this for RTL calendar work in general: month abbreviations need to be correct in all languages. This may come automatically when the JS API can use more of ICU.
