Actual results: The file remains locked and cannot be deleted, even after the tab has been closed. Expected results: The file should not be locked for longer than it's necessary (i.e. reading the file contents). This has worked in Firefox 32. But I remember it was broken before, years ago. Seems like the bug has come back again. Maybe add this to the test suite?
works for me with Firefox33 on Windows7 I uploaded a small html file as attachment on https://landfill.bugzilla.org and could delete it after uploading it. Can you reproduce the issue in the Firefox safemode ? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Workes again today. There must be a random bug in Firefox that only happens once in a while. But it seems to be still there. I just can't see it anymore, but I have no understanding of the code.

It just happened again. I dragged a JPG file into Google+ for upload, and when I was done and had closed the tab, the file could not be deleted because firefox.exe still had it open. So there is definitely an issue in Firefox, I just can't tell where. The file is still locked as I've finished writing this comment. Current version: Firefox 33.0.2 on Windows 7 x64.
Still there. Firefox 34.0. Doesn't want to go away. How did you fix that last time a few years ago? Can't you please just do that magic again? Safe mode is an invalid suggestion. The issue is not reproducible and using Firefox in safe mode all day will certainly make me switch to any other browser.
