In 1067679 we added code to enable asynchronous DNSQuery lookups to get TTL on Windows. This was enabled by default in bug 1084645 and now we have TTL in Gecko's DNS Cache. We should investigate how to add similar functionality on Linux.
Note: Work on getaddrinfo2 for Firefox OS in Bug 1040280 may be useful here.
