User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 8_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/600.1.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/8.0 Mobile/12B410 Safari/600.1.4 Steps to reproduce: Create a lot of appointments with long titles and give them reminders that popup at the same time within a short interval, i.e, that for testing purpose the user has about 20 reminders with 200 character titles popping up a short time after he has created the reminders within the calendar. Actual results: The appointment reminders popup and the dialog shows a horizontal scrollbar. If the user selects a single item, the buttons for closing the reminder or for rescheduling the reminder are not visible. They are at the right side and the user must scroll horizontal to see these buttons. So in most cases the user clicks the buttons at the bottom of the dialog to reschedule or close the selected reminder. The intention of the user is to work with this single reminder, but all reminders are worked on! Expected results: These possibly unvisible buttons outside the dialog area should be remoed completely and the buttons at the button should work on the selected items. Otherwise the quick rsp. fast user will produce a lot of false actions on his reminders. The actual concept of this dialog is not clearly designed.

The same goes for reminders from tasks.

Product: Thunderbird → Calendar

Version: 31 → unspecified

This could be a duplicate of Bug 412202. It seemed to me there was another similar bug report, but I can't find it at the moment.
(In reply to Decathlon from comment #2) > This could be a duplicate of Bug 412202. It seemed to me there was another > similar bug report, but I can't find it at the moment. Both have in common that the reminder popup isn't optimal. But the cause of this personal impression is very different. If we say that it's duplicate, we must update the info of bug 412202. The poster of bug 412202 will prefer it to see the whole text, possibly with many lines. My preference is, to see only two buttons within the whole popup because the many buttons could (and will) confuse the quick reader. I had it often that I click the lower buttons instead of the hidden ones. And that is really, really annoying... On the other hand we have a third direction. Dismiss all buttons from the popup and make the entries context sensitive, i.e. accept right mouse clicks and selections, like Explorer, Finder or Nautilus does. Then we would have a widely used concept and not an own brewed one. Possibly this could be simpler in implementation, see bug 654726.
OK, I would start working on a new clear layout and behaviour on the reminders if there is some support for the work I do. If there are some people that like to sponsor a third of my time, then it's possible for me to start. What are your thoughts?

Your proposals would need someone expert in UI. In my opinion you should make some mock-up about a new reminder dialog that shows the new layout compared with the current one, maybe also in normal and extreme cases (e.g. many reminders or long text) so we can take a look to possible advantages and ask for UI-review to Blake Winton (:bwinton).

I'd go with option 2 in bug 412202 and mark this one as a duplicate. If that path is followed, would that make the dialog usable for you? > > My preference is, to see only two buttons within the whole popup because the > many buttons could (and will) confuse the quick reader. I had it often that > I click the lower buttons instead of the hidden ones. And that is really, > really annoying... I don't agree here. If bug 412202 is fixed (which should be fairly simple, likely just a matter of setting the right flex attributes), then there will always be buttons in the context of the reminder being dismissed. If we put the buttons below the listbox, then they will be missing their context and some users might accidentally click on "dismiss all" instead of "dismiss" > > On the other hand we have a third direction. Dismiss all buttons from the > popup and make the entries context sensitive, i.e. accept right mouse clicks > and selections, like Explorer, Finder or Nautilus does. The actions should be visible immediately, not only show up via right click. Believe it or not, there are users out there that don't really know a lot about when and why right click is used and would miss the buttons :-) I'm going to mark this as duplicate. If you think we should do it differently, I'd appreciate a mockup like Decathlon mentioned and we can reopen this bug.
