User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; WOW64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0
Build ID: 20140917194002
Steps to reproduce:
I am very familiar with these steps that always worked with previous TB versions.
To my surprise ThunderBird ver 24 gives me a duplicate folder message.
Example:
I have an email for wombofsteel@netzero.com.
I copied the email to another computer. ( Yes, I am 100% that is the email)
Like I said, I truly know my email databases and where they are stored.
I clicked on wombofsteel email account.
I clicked on 'view settings for this account'.
I clicked on 'server settings'
I clicked on 'local directory' entry box.
I browsed to the folder where the email is; by useing the BROWSE button.
I navigated to "P:\Messaging\Ashley\Email\Thunderbird\Mail\WombOfSteel.Netzero"
I pressed 'OK'
Actual results:
ERROR:
The local directory path "P:\Messaging\Ashley\Email\Thunderbird\Mail\WombOfSteel.Netzero\wombofsteel.netzero" is invalid
Please pick a different directory.
NOTE:
In the error message, the last subdirectory is DUPLICATED.
If I tell it the files are in c:\email\netzero, the error will reply that "c:\email\netzero\netzero" is invalid
Expected results:
I should be able to browse to any directory of my choice.
I should be able to select 'choose folder' and have it register to be the new home of my files.
The setup is not looking properly for the folder that I browsed for.
I can not manually paste the directory into the 'local directory' entry box.
I am forced to use the 'browse' button to find the directory where the
crucial files are...like inbox.msf.
I would like the 'browse' button to select the folder that has the .msf files in it
and have it properly be sent to the account settings and not be 'misread'
with a duplicate folder name at the end.
There is a workaround for this problem in bug 949712. We still do not know why it happens, seems to be Win Vista only.

Clicking on 949712 did not show me what the workaround was.
However, I noticed that when you click on the actual directory that has .msf files in it;
you need make sure that the local driectory entry box is CLEARED. This was causing a double
folder entry.
It is now working as long as I pay attention to it.
Yeah, that is the workaround. I have now marked it in bug 949712, Whiteboard field too.
