User Story

User should not have to keep on moving mouse to get web page to download, or a web video to keep playing instead of pausing.

See bug 933733 for previous work on this issue. Likely regressed by bug 937306

Steps to reproduce:

When opening a web page or viewing a flash movie I have to continually move the mouse to download the page or stop the player from freezing.


Actual results:

Page won't download unless mouse is moved


Expected results:

The page should download without moving the mouse. This issue was in version 25. Now in version 33.0.2

According to the User Advocacy team, we still have reports (but few) that this is happening in 33.

Do we have about:support information from any of those users? It would sure be nice if we could look for some correlations. :-(

Adding 'Regression' since one user has stated it works in 32, not in 33.x.x

My father's computer had this problem. Firefox 33.1.1

I seem to have fixed it by uninstalling:
MapsGalaxy Toolbar by Mindspark

I had also uninstalled:
Inbox Ace Toolbar by Mindspark

I see Mindspark in Joel's about:plugins report above. Joel, try unins

Recommended solution for users: uninstall all Mindspark toolbars (through "Programs and Features", sort by publisher and uninstall all toolbars from Mindspark).
Recommended solution for Mozilla: disable this ... toolbar.

Also of note:
Before uninstalling, Firefox worked as expected when Task Manager or Resource Monitor was running.
Either this or bug 1105386 is probably a dupe, although I haven't checked if the latter regressed in 33. Either way, installing Shrink Pic [1] triggers what sounds like the same behavior (which might be less obvious to the user than a toolbar).

I have a client experiencing the same problem. She was running version 33.1 and the problem is now occurring with 34.0.5.  Because the environment is somewhat different than listed above (notably graphics and antivirus), I will contribute the good stuff on this computer, an i3 processor running Win 7 (64-bit) with Intel HD graphics and Symantec Endpoint Protection (freestanding client):

I haven't managed to reproduce this issue on the latest release(43.0.3) nor latest Nightly(46.0a1). Any website I navigate to, downloads and/or plays videos correctly.

Can you please try to reproduce this on the latest release(43.0.3) and latest Nightly(46.0a1) and provide the results? When doing this, please try to reproduce with a new clean Firefox profile, maybe even in safe mode, as some of this issues may be caused by third party installed add-ons or custom settings(https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems).
