The tools teams are in the progress of switching all test harnesses to output structured logging instead of simple text logs. Structured logs output JSON data for each log message rather than just a simple string allowing automated systems to understand those logs simply rather than having to rely on special string matching in the log lines like they do now.

During the review of the harness parts of mochitest-jetpack this came up and I was asked to file this bug. It sounds likely that structured logging might become a requirement for tests in the future so I started playing with it a little. I had the beginnings of a patch here but was focusing on getting mochitest-jetpack fully running first.
