BUILD: Linux 2001-11-09-08
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) Load a webpage (http://web/bzbarsky/www/index.shtml will do fine)
2) Select File > Print Preview
3) Scroll all the way right (bug 109564)
3) Look at the right edge of the page shown in the browser
EXPECTED RESULTS:
Shows right margin and some spacing between the right paper edge and the content
area edge (like on the left side, top, and bottom).
ACTUAL RESULTS:
Page suddenly cut off. Can't see full page title text in upper right hand
corner. Looks very disconcerting.

I see this on W2k on build 2001111603 at (e.g.) http://64.77.18.34/res-terms.html .
The text that should flow and wrap gets pushed too far to the right and is cut
off (by the printer as well). It definately is not obeying right margin space
(not to mention the lack of a "page setup" option to set margins, etc.).

Would it be safe to say that it isn't copping the contents of the page?

It seems to be more of an issue in the total width of the display being the
width of the page. However, some space is left to the left of the page (the
gray area), which is fine. But as a result that width of the page is cropped
off and of course no gray area is shown to the right of the page. Comment #1 is
completely irrelevant to this bug, especially since the text is cut off in the
printed copy as well. This bug is a preview issue only.

Testing with a current build the whole page _is_ shown. however, the gray area
around the page is about 1/4 inch on left, side, and top. It's about 1/16 inch
on the right. This looks fairly poor.... Reopening, sorry. Rod, if you'd like
me to file a new bug on that, I could do it, I guess.

You may need to narrow the window and/or open the sidebar to reproduce the
remaining problem, btw.

What looks poor?
You mean it doesn't look consistent?
| Reporter | ||
Comment 10•24 years ago
|
||
Sure. You could say that. :)
We basically enforce a minimal amount of space to the right of the page (even if
the window is too narrow for the page). That minimal space should be equal to
the space we leave to the left of the page. This is not referring to margins,
but rather to the gray space outside the preview area.

I wonder if the space is the same but the scrollbar uses some of it?

Notice how the paragraph beginning with "This second edition of Learning Red
Hat Linux" has been reformatted for Print Preview. But despite the
reformatting, the text is trucated. Two or three words are dropped from each
line.
I am using Pring Preview on build 2002020103 on Win 2K.

Dom, my guess is that the page has a table or div with a set width and it is
cropping like it is suppose to. It crops when it print also.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but when you print, even when you
set margins to 0", the print of the page is 1/8" farther in from the left margin
than the page headers (I see this with the example oreilly URL). So getting the
page to line up with the headers could enable another 1/8" to print on the right
side.
Also, if I set margins to 0" and scale to "94", then print preview shows the
entire page within the print preview, but the print out gets cropped on the
right margin (perhaps due to printer minimum enforced right margin?). It has to
be set to a scale of "92" in order to print the entire page without cropping the
right side.

This looks to work now. Should be set to WFM?

I saw this bug for the first time today, in 1.0 RC3 (it had worked in prior
versions for me.) while viewing http://www.swcp.com/csar/newsletter/7-5.html .
All the paragraphs are cut off at the right margin by a word or two. It's as if
wrapping is being done without consideration of where the margins are set, but
on display the margins are cropped anyway.
In fact, I can reproduce the "cut off right margin" merely by viewing "about:"
and chosing print preview. Viewing "about:" also demonstrates Bug 109970.
I am using Mozilla installed from the FreeBSD Ports Collection, which
unfortunately reports Build ID 0000000000. about: shows:

Check this page and try a print preview:
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/05/hmeyer_91_revert_from_subfs.html
Now, my "Page Setup" are "Shrink To Fit Page Width".
Inspite this setting some text in the right edge are lost (Look at the right
edges of window in Preview)!
The real problem is
1. final "HARD copy" also loses text in the right hand side.
2. Printing a PostScript file -> also same problem

Comment 23 has nothing to do with this bug. This is a bug about how print
preview is presented, not about the actual previewing or printing of the
content. Please file a separate bug on that issue, if it's not filed already.

WFM, http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/redhat2/ *EXCEPT*, the bottom of the page,
the right side of "respective owners." is cut off.

Yeah, this seems to be worksforme now. I think. Only one of the three trunk builds I tried did anything sane at all with print preview, but that one did the right thing.
