I get this strange things but only with mozilla.org.
If I
1. open mozilla.org -> i get favicon at the address bar.
2. press Ctrl+T -> favicon doesn't appear on the mozilla tab.
3. on the new tab enter cnn.com -> favicon appears in the address bar and on the
cnn tab
4. I reload the mozilla.org tab -> favicon appears now in the address bar and
address bar.
5. press Ctrl+T -> favicon appears on the mozilla tab and cnn tab.
6. open svlug.org which doesn't have a favicon -> still everything is ok
7. switch to mozilla tab -> favicon appears on the mozilla tab, but not on the
address bar.
8. switch to cnn tab -> favicon appears on address bar.
9. switch to mozilla -> favicon reappears on address bar.
now if u use netscape.com instead of mozilla.org then everything is ok and all
the icons appear when they need to.
I have
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011115

this bug is not for FAVICON but for LINK REL=ICON

Mike: The thing we see using <link rel="icon" > is also called favicon in
Mozilla lingo. All bugs about the feature use it the summary to make it easier
to find. Summary of ug 109472 is IMHO the best example.

Jacek: yes, but using favicon.ico in root directory works, but LINK REL=ICON
doesn't, so this is the problem ...

I see. Changing the summary to make it clear which favicon type has problems.
Summary: Creating new tab on page with favicon loses the favicon → Creating new tab on page with <link rel="icon> favicon loses the favicon
When I go from one tab to another _with the same icon_, the URLbar loses its
icon. If I go to a tab with a different icon, the urlbar gets the (right) icon.

It's evem more interesting if a page has both <link rel="icon> and /favivon.ico
types of favicon. If you open the page in a new window you see the <link...>
favicon. When you Ctrl-T a new tab the favicon of the first tab becomes /favicon.ico
A testcase? My homepage: http://water.iopan.gda.pl/~piskozub/ If you dowhat I
described above the favicon changes from my photo to the logo of my employer.
