One thing we've lost with Flare are provider-specific suggestions. I can currently use the suggestions of the default search engine with the one-click buttons through keyboard navigation, but that is not very discoverable.

What do you think about dragging a suggestion and dropping it onto a one-off button to search for it with a particular engine? Not too discoverable I guess. Just a though.
Any updates? Maybe we can learn from Chrome's implementation: Firstly you type a keyword for alternative search engine, then press "tab" to enter the temporary non-default search mode. After that, you can just type in your search keywords, the suggestion/auto-completion will appear below like the default engine. It's is intuitive for me, and the better thing is the whole process can be done with keyboard only.
Moving to p3 because no activity for at least 1 year(s). See https://github.com/mozilla/bug-handling/blob/master/policy/triage-bugzilla.md#how-do-you-triage for more information

The address bar already has this capability. The separate search bar doesn't, hence clarifying the summary.
