Discovery page used to be about:apps. Three things changes about the assumptions for this page: 1. desktop would not link directly to marketplace, we therefore needed an intermediary location about:apps with mp content in the iframe. 2. we would therefore not be able to install apps directly from the about:apps page 3. the format needed to be a grid of icons as the best way to promote desktop only apps. Those circumstances have changed (we can link, we can therefore install, we have a better promotion mechanism in the feed since we cleaned up the UI and have a desktop app only promo area). The Home Page is now a better desktop app promotional vehicle that takes away an intermediate step. Therefore about:apps discovery page is really superfluous. It is dead. We should keep the URL for now in case (Liz) comes up with a landing page that is better than the home page. Needed by January 13
Hi David, I hope when we are "removing" the component out of sight, we are not deleting the repos. We have a hard time getting the communities to complete Marketplace especially new ones are created and old ones are modified and sometimes removed, we are not throwing them away. Will there be features that are desktop or mobile specific? Thanks, Peiying
We're going to handle this in nginx (separate ops bug for that), but we should clean up/close out things related to discoplace.
