Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0
Build ID: 20141126041045
Steps to reproduce:
Start typing your search term immediately after opening the tab group view, either by clicking the button or using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Shift-E. Note that you need to be typing before the view actually appears - for me, there's about a 1s delay between opening it and seeing it, since I have many tabs, although I can still replicate this bug with just one tab open by being quicker.
To make the effect obvious, roll your fingers over, say, the keys P, O, I, in that order, immediately after triggering the tab group view.
Actual results:
The search term's characters are entered in the wrong order. For instance, after definitely typing 'poi', I see 'oip' in the search box of the tab group view.
Expected results:
Characters typed should appear in the correct order.
The problem is exacerbated by having lots of tabs and tab groups, which is exactly what the feature is designed to help you with. The more tabs you have, the more likely you'll encounter this when searching for a tab.
I discovered today that this problem is somewhat mitigated by disabling the animation, by setting browser.panorama.animate_zoom to false.

Panorama has been removed from Firefox 45, currently in Beta and scheduled for release on March 7th. As such, I'm closing all existing Panorama bugs.
If you are still using Panorama, you will see a deprecation message in Firefox 44, and when 45 is released your tab group data will be migrated to bookmarks, with a folder for each group. There are also a few addons offering similar functionality.
See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tab-groups-removal for more info.
We're removing Panorama because it has extremely low usage (about 0.01% of users), and has a large number of bugs and usability issues. The cost of fixing all those issues is far too high to justify, and so we'll instead be focusing our time and energy on improving other parts of Firefox.
