From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120
BuildID: 20011112009
Until Mozilla 0.9.5 I could use a file locally using an URL like
'file:///somedir/proxy.pac'. With Moz 0.9.6, the same file doesn't seem to be
loaded and I can't browse to any page. Looking at the JavaScript
Console, I see the following message each time I try to reload the file:
--- 8< ---
Error: LocalFindProxyForURL is not a function
Source File:
file:///C:/Program%20Files/mozilla.org/Mozilla/components/nsProxyAutoConfig.js
Line: 83
--- 8< ---
When I copy the proxy file to a web site and enter the corresponding
URL in the preferences, e.g. 'http://mysite/someotherdir/proxy.pac'
everything works fine.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a local proxy.pac
2. put it in the advance/proxy preferences
3. open the javascript console
4. reload the file
5. try to browse somewhere (doesn't matter where)
Actual Results: At step 4. the described error message appears in the
JavaScript console.
At step 5. nothing!
Expected Results: At step 5. the page should be loaded.

WFM Linux 0.9.6 and a trunk cvs build from tuesday.
I have some memory that the syntax for file urls is picky on windows.. try
specifying the drive?
basic, can you take a look at this on windows?

Summary: Automatic Proxy configuration using local file fails → PAC: Automatic Proxy configuration using local file fails
Confirmed with build 200112104 win32 when there is a bad PAC or bad URL to the PAC.
Eric: could you give us the file URL? If not could you try loading the PAC in
the browser window and see if it loads? If it does load, and it changes into a
different URL, try using that URL.
tingley: I'm thinking that we should be giving a better error than this no?

i wonder if this has anything to do with the space in "Program Files"
Darin: the js error happens because the function "LocalFindProxyForURL" was not
defined due mozilla failing to get that function from the PAC file for whatever
reason. We probably should do a null check and give a better error or even an
alert popup. The problem described by the reporter has nothing to do with
"Program files".
Sorry for late answer: password at home, computer at work, myself at the
customer...
Basic: those are the magics of computers or my unbelievable stupidity, but as,
in order to answer your question, I went back to a local file, you guessed it,
it worked!
I can swear that the path I did put in was exactly the same as before but I'm
pretty sure. Nevertheless the new path is file:///c:/data/_perso/proxy.pac and
it works. I also completely stopped (including quickstart icone) and re-started
Moz and it continued to work. I even tried another (older) version of my proxy
file and it did work. I cleaned memory and disk caches. It works, it works...
So, I don't know what exactly happened but a better error message would be fine,
or doing nothing for me is also OK. Sorry guys! Set the severity to normal, hope
this is OK.
