Steps to reproduce:

I have an e-mail containing german umlaut characters (attached, but cleared of personal information.)
When selecting the message in the thunderbird main window, a part of the thunderbird window is used to preview the message, with the umlauts shown correctly.
When I change the window layout now (in the view/layout menu) between any of the three views (default view, wide view, vertical view), the umlauts are displayed incorrectly.


Actual results:

The umlauts were shown as "äöüß" (probably UTF-8 encoded but misinterpreted).


Expected results:

The umlauts ought to be displayed correctly.

A simple workaround:
Select a different message, then re-select the original one. Now the umlauts are shown correctly again.
Also, you can just open the message in a new tab. The umlauts are correctly shown in there, and when you return to the main window, the message is also restored.
