There should be an ability to export selected bookmarks to a file. 

UI:
Select bookmarks in bookmark manager, and use File>Export selected. 

Only selected bookmarks would be copied to the file.

A bug that is also caused by this:

1. Open Manage Bookmark window.
2. Right-click a branch, select Open in New window, the selected branch is
opened in new window
3. Select Tools -> Export

EXPECTED: Export the bookmarks in this new window (selected branch) only.

ACTUAL: Export the whole bookmark file.

I was just about to file the very same bug.

Great idea!  This would make it so much simpler to copy only specific bookmarks
from one person's profile to another.

i just encountered similar problem - but with tab-group bookmarks...
there is curently no way to pass somebody a group of tabs ... 
and exporting a bookmark (in this particular case a tab-group-bookmark) would
definitely solve the case...

as on expected behavior...

1) it would be nice
   a) make this option available from bookmark manager (select several bookmarks
and have some option to export selected bookmarks)
   b) have eventually contextmenu for bookmarks (that would require fixing bug
#50504  -- see bug #50504 comment #23 )  and have export option there in addition..
2) in addition to this (although i personally do not need that much) i think
there should be a possability to export (whatever there was to export) in a
variety of formats (opera/msie/moz/plain-text urls/etc...)

[same goes by the way for a tree of bookmarks - there should be a possability to
export them directly...]

It would be great to have an export wizard.
When choosing to export a popup window should ask :
- whether to export all bookmarks,
- or to select and manage which one you want to export.

The second choice should result having a window with all bookmarks where you can
remove the ones you do not want and move or rename the ones you want. (Actually
like the manager but the modifications would only apply to the exported
bookmarks and not to the ones you used)

This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state.

Sounds like extension fodder to me now that we are using the Places Bookmarks code on SeaMonkey 2.1b2
