Hello Theo,
Thanks for taking on the task.
*Source file*: https://svn.mozilla.org/projects/l10n-misc/trunk/firefoxos-marketing/fr/screenshots_2_0.lang
*References*:
- 1.3 source file: https://svn.mozilla.org/projects/l10n-misc/trunk/firefoxos-marketing/fr/screenshots.lang
- 2.0: English screenshots: https://mozilla.app.box.com/files/0/f/2891772563/EN
This is a high priority project. The screenshots would be needed for numerous launches in Africa starting May 1st. The sooner we finish this the sooner we can share with PR, marketing and partners
Thank you,

Will the 2.0 screenshots be used in Africa *only*?
I'm not sure which set of fake names is best to use here:
If it's only for Saharan Africa: https://www.facebook.com/notes/piccmicom-officiel/des-noms-de-famille-identiques-un-peu-partout-en-afrique-noire/1386984111526411 (Cameroun, Senegal, Ivory Coast, South Africa…)
http://www.journaldesfemmes.com/nom-de-famille/noms/1/1/france.shtml Common names used in France
Common names used in North Africa would be different as well.
If we're not using common names from France, we should update pictures as well.
Also, I won't be able to tell if first + last name does sound natural, except for names used in France.

Theo, thank you for the update and questions. For the time being, we are only looking at West Africa and North Africa. We are going to create two separate sets so the images are more relevant.
Common names - thank you for the link. I think we will pick a few there, and we will have to reach out for the common names in the ME and North Africa area to make it more generic. In fact we will need two sets of English as well.
We are reviewing some suggested images for these regions. Once the people photos are chosen, we will pair up the names.
It is not as straight forward as some other languages.

||
Thanks for the clarification, Peiying :)
Therefore I'll push all the strings that I think are generic enough to be used in all the target regions. Then we'll ask people from those regions to provide the remaining strings?
Would that work for you?

Hi Tannie & Ibrahima,
@tannie:
Just updated the file, so that you can start working on it: http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/l10n-misc/trunk/firefoxos-marketing/fr/screenshots_2_0.lang?view=co
Here's some general guidance:
As discussed with Peiying, artists/songs will be kept from English.
Please make sure to remove AM/PM everywhere (there are a LOT of them).
Screenshot 03: beware, I changed the day number (1 -> 3), because in French it should be "1er" and we don't support that yet on the OS, so that's a bit ugly.
Screenshots 12, 17 and 35:
B should be o
KB should be Ko
MB should be Mo
GB should be Go
Screenshot 35:
- Haven't provided translation for the dog picture, because it will be replaced with something else.
As discussed above, we will create two sets of names, one for West Africa and another one for North Africa, as soon as we have the new pictures.
@Ibrahima:
If you have the opportunity to review the file, that would be greatly appreciated :)
If you find things that should be avoided, changed (cultural issues, things that doesn't feel natural…), or have suggestions for company names (we still miss 5 of them, I'm a bit out of ideas), please shoot!

Let's shift our focus on French as it is high priority for the launch. Can you select the images now or do you have to wait for Matej's approval?

Thanks Tannie!
I've been able to give it a first review, please give it a shot when you have a chance:
Screenshot 03:
Please replace the "1" in the two little calendars (top and bottom) with a "3", so that it matches the day number, like on the device.
Screenshot 04:
"Where" should be "Où ?"
The first [NAME HERE] should be "Agenda travail" (Work calendar)
Screenshot 05:
"Room 801" should be "Salle 03"
Missing space in "Rappel:", before ":".
Screenshot 09:
"Me le rappeler" should be "Répétition"
"Répétition" should be "Rappel"
Screenshot 12:
I think that "200 Ko" should be "200 Mo", otherwise the scale looks really weird :)
Screenshot 15:
Missing space before the 4 ":" in the screenshot (À, Cc, Cci, Objet).
Good to have: replacing the QWERTY layout with an AZERTY one, if you have the assets.
Screenshot 17:
"From:" > "De :"
"To:" > "À :"
"CC:" > "Cc :"
At the end of the message, please replace "Merci !" with "À bientôt !" (I didn't understand it would be used here)
Screenshot 27:
Please replace the object "Des nouvelles" with "Rendez-vous" (that didn't match the discussion)
That's all! Thanks :)

Hi,
don't know if it's the right place here to comment but I realise those screenshots show 4G and single SIM on the status bar.
For PR use when we will launch Firefox OS 2.0 in Africa in french speaking countries, we might need 3G+ and dual SIM on the status bar. might be good to check with PR team what they need exactly. Same question for our website maybe.

Hi Ibrahima and Mohomodou,
Could you help provide 12 sets of names, 6 female names and 6 male names? List them below and indicate which one is Male or Female.
We need first letter in their last names to be in consecutive order, such as K, L M, or F, G, H.
Thank you,

I hope I understood the assignment right. Here a set of first names taken from different parts of West Africa, which doesn't say much because of the great wealth in names. A name may sound feminine or masculine depending on the area. So I hope these are less ambiguous.

Hi Mohomodou,
Thank you for your swift reply, really appreciate it. Thanks for putting into the consideration on gender issue. This is always the most challenging part of the screenshot project, because the intent is difficult to explain as the "rule" doesn't apply to all the languages.
Question:
- We also need surnames provide. Do people always have a last name or it depends?. When sorting in a searchable order (if family name and given name are present), by custom, is it sorted by family name or given name?
- We would like to have you stick to 3 letters (depending on sorting order of given or family name). So choose ABC or KLM or XYZ as the letter group to consider. Both male and female names share the same letter initials, like what you did, but we need you to choose only three of the letters, not 8 you end up now.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Peiying,
I see to miss part of the picture – i.e context. For ex, I don't know exactly what screenshots have to do with first or last names.
Maybe it is simpler if there is a simple form to fill in with last names. The common sequence on common keyboards is more like ABC, DEF, GHI, JKL, MNO, etc. Does any surname beginning with A, B or C go under ABC, for ex? How many surnames are needed.
As for a rule for surnames, it is surely complicated and I have no expertise on the intricacies of the matter. Roughly speaking, I see (as a lay observer) at least 3 models: 1) West African societies with a tradition of established family names; 2) those that align two first names: the child's followed his father's; and 3) the ones with two first names separated by a particle meaning "son of" or "daughter of".
For ex, case 2 (Hausa, Zarma-Songhay, Northern Fulah) and 3 (Arab/Hasaniya, Tuareg) are prevalent in the Sahel area. Case 1 more to the central and southern parts of the region.
Now all these societies are made to conform to a first name, family name model. The way to go about it is far from attaining consistency to date.
Take these two siblings: Baba and Halima, son and daughter of Ahmed. This gives for the Tuareg: Baba Ag Ahmed and Halima Walet Ahmed. #Case 3# Some sort them using "Ahmed", others using "Ag" or "Walet" (particle meaning "son of" or "daughter of") for the alphabetical order.
(FYI, my name is Case 2 and Ibrahima's Case 1.)

Hi Mohomodou,
I just shared the link of screenshots so you have some context of what we are looking for. If by some custom, only one name is used, that's fine. We just need a mix of names in the Contact feature, as well as names we can use in email/text message sender, dialer screen, etc.

https://mozilla.box.com/s/muy0p39sw3btsxv1a54720paxk9ezflg
Matej, we need to create some new strings to compliment the new images on 35-Video_List: https://mozilla.box.com/s/32wnqt642rgbyog56vn1wwkwcxcpt4k3
Once you come up with the English strings, I'll request translations for French and Wolof (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1124807).
Also, do you think we should request more action/landscape photos fro the 21-Gallery_Thumbnails pages? I had to use several contact images near the bottom, and it breaks the flow a bit. But let me know what you think.
If everyone else could please review the images and text, and let me know what changes you would suggest. Thanks!!

Hi Tannie,
Quick review :)
Screenshot 20:
Just noticed that "Modifier" was the header for 1.3 and I changed it in 2.0. So it should be instead "Mode édition"
Screenshot 27 (message) and in screenshot 31 (notification):
There's a typo that Lizie spotted. It should be: "Non pas de souci, à tout à l’heure !" (removing "s" to "soucis").
Screenshot 35:
"Mo" instead of "MB" (just so that we won't forget them in the final rush ;))
Video descriptions:
1st: "Hassane dans son atelier de sculpture"
2nd: "Départ à la pêche"
3rd: "Après-midi foot"
4th: "Une sieste bien méritée !"
I'll let Mohomodou tell if the names are matching the pictures.
Thanks!

Thanks! Just a trailing " character on screenshot 35, otherwise it looks good.
(I didn't use any English string to get the video description in French, because for those particular strings, we usually have to rephrase the entire en-US string to get something that sounds natural)

Thanks for these. I just have a few notes and questions:
2. Let's make it "National Park Museum"
3. I think it would sound better as "Higher Institute of Technology"
4. We can shorten "Laboratory" to "Lab"
5. "Carrefour" is real store, I'm not sure we can use that
The rest look great.

No objection, please proceed.
2. Yes, initially I used this form. So back to it.
5. I didn't have that Carrefour in mind. I only vaguely know it exists. (Generic sense of "crossroad"). Either out or any alternative, as you wish.
Thanks for the quick annotation.
