User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:37.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/37.0 Build ID: 20150415140819 Steps to reproduce: Tried to send a mail. Actual results: TB brings up an alert box: An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: 4.3.2 All server ports are busy. I click 'OK' and my draft disappears and is copied into the Sent folder, as if it was sent successfully, but in fact, it's not sent. Expected results: After clicking 'OK' on the alert, the draft should remain open, so that I can (and have to) retry sending the mail until it's correctly taken by the mail server.

I think that this bug and probably bug #1270425 are both related to Thunderbird not handling correctly certain error messages from SMTP servers. I'm experiencing the same behaviour with error 5.2.0 "spam content detected. Check message and retry.": the message wasn't sent but anyway copied to outbox folder and composing window closed, which is really unconvenient. User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/45.1.1
Severity: normal → S3

Matteo, are you still seeing issues?

I think that this bug and probably bug #1270425 are both related to
Thunderbird not handling correctly certain error messages from SMTP servers.

That was duplicated to Bug 780124 - After "4XX error on greeting from SMTP server" or "error response to SMTP command", mail is saved in Sent folder and composition window is closed, despite that SMTP send of mail fails - which has since been closed.

Altough I'm currently unable to find a message that triggers the SMTP error, I believe TB behavior for some time now is to go back to the compose window instead of saving to Sent and closing it; unfortunately I'm not able to tell from which version the behavior changed.

Regards.
Matteo
