search bar doesn't honor existing sorting direction

Details
1. Sort ALL messages by order recieved but in DESCENDING order such that new
messages are at the top of the window.
2. Apply a filter to the search bar that will get a few hits
Expected Results: List of messages with search filter applied are in same
descending order, with newest messages on top
Actual Results: Results of serach always start out in ascending order, forcing
you to scroll down to the bottom of the window to see newest messages. Then
changing the sort order manually through the menus incorrectly matches the
setting for ascending/descending order.
