User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150511103819

Steps to reproduce:

Open firefox preferences page (open preferences)
Try to edit/change any settings or try to navigate through tabs (search, content etc.).

Actual results:

Not able to navigate in between tabs in preferences page.
Also not able to modify any settings.
Opens with the default general tab and none of the available settings is modifiable.
Also not able to navigate any other tab (search, content etc.).
(Seems as if any mouse click is not working in preferences page)

Expected results:

Should be able to navigate within and across tabs.
Should be able to change preferences in general tab
Only occuring on my linux (elementary OS).
Does this happen in a brand new profile?
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

Does this happen when you do the following?
1. In the address bar, paste the following, then press Enter:
about:config?filter=browser.preferences.inContent
2. To bypass the warning, press the big button labeled “I'll be careful, I promise!”.
3. In the search results, double-click “browser.preferences.inContent” to set its value to “false”.

1. Yes, it works for a new profile.
2. Yes, By setting browser.preferences.inContent=false, I'm able to change the preferences, but preferences open in a new window as it was happening on previous firefox versions. But, the same issues remain while accessing page "about:preferences".

Then chances are one of your add-ons is to blame. Can you track down which one and report back?

Caught the culprit - An theme add-on

Thanks for helping out.

You're welcome. Thank you for the update.

I see no public contact information for this add-on. Jorge, can you notify the author through AMO?

I contacted the developer through AMO and will mark the theme as incompatible with 38 and above.

With WebExtensions being the only valid way of doing extensions in Firefox 57, I don't think this bug is still relevant.
