Android Mobile 41.0a1 (2015-05-18) When you save a bookmark shortcut to your desktop, it saves with the favicon as the shortcut icon. When you update Firefox Nightly, the icon goes away and you get a Nightly app icon instead. This started happening when my phone got upgraded from Kit Kat to Lollipop. The icons were persistent across updates in Kit Kat.
Probably related to bug 968427. Though since this is specific and possibly actionable we should look into this specific instance. This is a longstanding fit and polish issue. When it happens the user needs to delete each icon manually and then manually recreate each shortcut at great time cost to the user.

Dave - Are you running Firefox from the SD Card?

(In reply to Mark Finkle (:mfinkle) from comment #2) > Dave - Are you running Firefox from the SD Card? No, it's on the main storage. (My understanding is the sync service wouldn't run at boot if it was on the SD Card, so pushing tabs to it from the desktop would break until I ran it the first time after each boot)

Martyn - Can you take a look at our homescreen shortcut code and see if we're doing something that would break the shortcut? Dave - What device and what launcher are you using?

If this is Samsung, it's definitely Bug 968427.
