RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 159967

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150513174244

Steps to reproduce:

Tried to import a CSV file which I created with Windows Live Mail 2012 which included all my e-Mail contacts.

Actual results:

Thunderbird didn´t support CSV files, where
the values are seperated with semicolons ";"

instead I had to use the windows editor and its search and replace function tu manually change the file so that Thunderbird could read it.

Expected results:

For unexperienced user, my method with the Windows Editor is not an option,
because they will never find out that the Windows Editor can do this...

So Thunderbird should natively support different kinds of CSV files.

This is very essential for the usability of the program.
Confirming that semicolon separated values don't get split.

The C in CSV does stand for comma, not semiColon.

Ok, Thanks for explaining the theory, but please explain that Microsoft, who are using semiColon seperated CSV files...(Windows Live Mail 2012 export)

Or Microsoft has a buggy export function, which makes that mistake...

Could this be a problem of different language settings? (My Windows 7 System language is "german")

The same thing happened when I exported my contacts from the NOKIA PC Suite,

I opened the file with the Microsoft Editor and there where semiColons instead of commas.
