Since on a usual keyboard, Q and W are very close, it is possible that you want to close only the current tab, but press Cmd-Q by mistake and quit the whole Firefox.
It would be good to see an option which allows user to confirm when they press Cmd-Q before quiting the whole application.
It seems that in Chrome, there is an option for this in the main menu.

This is a duplicate of bug 550559. With that bug fixed, there is a warning when closing multiple tabs with Cmd+Q that can be enabled with session restore on or off.
Bug 426849 is open for other scenarios.

I think this is probably a closer dupe of bug 426849 given bug 550559 and bug 1506173 fixed, but I agree that having another bug open probably doesn't help at this point.
