Build: 2001122508, Mac OS 9.1 To reproduce: 1. Switch to a resolution of 800*600 or lower (in the unlikely event that you are not already using such a resolution). 2. Create a new profile. 3. Open the Help window. What you should see: * A window which is small enough to fit completely on the screen, and small enough to have alongside your work while you are following instructions in it -- ideally, about 200 pixels wide and about 350 pixels high. What you actually see: * A window which is too large to fit completely on the screen. Unfortunately, Mozilla's Help window cannot be made narrow enough to be useful until the silly contents panel is removed. However, it should still be made small enough to fit on the screen.

I filed bug 117052 on getting rid of the contents pane. The exact fix for this bug depends on how, and how quickly, that bug gets resolved.

The problem also happens in windows 98. Only when you change to 1024* 768 you can see the whole help window

Platform/OS -> All/All I see this also on Win2K. The window is too tall for 800x600.
OS: Mac System 9.x → All
Hardware: Macintosh → All

Also exists on WinXP. Too tall for 800x600.

How's this?
Is 590 still too tall on Windows if you have the taskbar visible, especially if your font's a little larger? Why not use 550 to be safe?

Needed for NS rtm and Moz 1.0, setting milestone and impact accordingly (adt2).

Marking as FIXED (on trunk and branch). This little patch was shuttled in with some other stuff inadvertently.

I'm pretty sure the task bar in Windows XP (heck, any windows for that matter) is higher than 10 pixels, and by default it's always visible. So for a lot of WinXP users that run at 800x600, the window will still extend off-screen.

the problem is still there in 2002060415. did i misunderstand that "marked as fixed" comment?

I took Dean's good advice and shrunk it to 550. If it still looks oversized, that may be because you have persisted some manual resizing you did at some point in the past? In any case, I checked these changes in late yesterday, so 2002060415 may not have picked them up.

i have only now found out that profile information is (now?!) stored in a subfolder of win98's %windir%. after deleting that folder, the default help window is not oversized anymore. it may be out of place here, but i find it a bad idea to store that information there and not in mozilla's program folder. i overwrite my windows partition rather frequently and have the mozilla folder on a different partition. can i configure the profile folder location? i happily use win32 talkback zip's in order to prevent registry entries and the like ...
