This is on 31.6.0.
STR (please see the screenshot which helps show the bug):
1. Focus a single message using the mouse. For example, the one from Robert Kaiser in the screenshot.
2. Focus a collapsed thread using the mouse. For example, the "New Module Proposal: Media" thread in the screenshot.
3. Use the keyboard to focus another message. For example, press down in the screenshot to go to the message from aslan.l@....
Thunderbird shows the headers from the message focused in step 1. Using the keyboard in step 3 is crucial; focusing the same message using the mouse doesn't cause the bug to happen.

Ehsan,
Does it reproduce on version 38 in safe mode?
This is on Mac?
I was not able to reproduce using current trunk and 38.3.0, started in safe mode on windows.

Eckard,
Have you seen this in the past?
Can you reproduce on Mac?

I've never seen this in the past but usually my messages are sorted by "Unthreaded".
Actually when I use the threaded view in different folders and several profiles I am unable to reproduce this issue neither in TB 38 nor in TB 45 beta.
@Ehsan: does the issue persist after repairing the folder?

I'm not sure, it's been a while since I've used Thunderbird, sorry. The size of my mailbox gradually grew over what Thunderbird could handle so I had to stop using it with a heavy heart. :-(
