Right now I have new versions for my add-ons pending review, for example OmnSidebar v1.6: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/omnisidebar/versions/

Since it hasn't been reviewed yet, it also hasn't been signed yet, but it appears in the Version History from the point it is uploaded. If a user installs directly from there, that user won't automatically update to the signed version once it is accepted as there will be no version change.

I don't think unsigned versions should appear in the version history, besides these not being automatically updated once signed, I think the current behavior completely contradicts everything that has been said for the development channel, as in AMO is "publicly distributing" non-signed stuff ;) (bug 1172035)
Showing unsigned versions in the Versions page is just as risky as showing unreviewed versions has always been. It can be useful for certain users to have early access to unreviewed versions, so I think it makes sense to keep them that way.

It's probably true that users won't be updated to the signed version, but they agreed to install the unsigned version anyway, so there's no great benefit there. Also, they will be updated to the next signed version of the add-on, unless they again decide to install it from the All Versions page.

I don't think there's a real problem here.
