Details
In the address book, I can create mail groups (or lists) consisting of several
e-mail addresses. If I use this mail group to compose, I expect that the group is
resolved to several e-mail addresses.
BUT the group name is sent "as is" to sendmail which in turn responds that the
recipient is not correct.
This worked fine in Netscape 4.
Cheers, Jörg

maybe a message composition/send bug, or an address book bug, but not a mail
database bug.

Moz 0.9.7 build: Linux RH 7.1, appears to be working.
Moz 2001-01-04-08: Linux RH 7.1, appears to be working.
What build are you using?

Help about shows:
Mozilla 0.9.7
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.7) Gecko/20011221
We are using Debian2.2r2; any more details needed?
BTW, if I enter in the composition window a mail group defined in the address
book, should it be directly resolved into single addresses or at the time of
sending?

Sorry, but I still cannot use lists defined in the address book in the mail
composition window. If I enter an address matching a mail list, the mail list
name gets completed and is sent "as is" to the mailserver. The server then
complains about a missing domain in the address. I would expect the mail list
name to resolved to the real addresses in the process of sending.
PLEASE, tell me how you checked whether this works for you. I.e. give me an
example that should also work for me.
Thanks, Jörg

Look at Bug 62084, comment #6: I get the same kind of response from the
mailserver. Perhaps the problem is related to importing. Actually, I imported my
addressbook from Netscape 4.

I created a brand new address book and a mailing list in Mozilla 0.9.8 (Mac OS
X) and had the same problem - the list name was treated as the e-mail address so
the SMTP server rejected it. Upgrade "Severity" to major; change Platform and
OS to All/All.

This should probably go in Mozilla 0.9.9, or Mozilla 1.0 at the latest.

Creating a new addressbook with new addresses shows the same problem,
but only if I select the Mailings list directly from the address book using
the underlined blue link.
If I use completion in the composition window, it seems to work in my case.
Quoting Cavin Song (cavin@netscape.com) regarding this issue:
> I think list expansion only works with auto-completion because only through it
> do we know a name is a list or single address (we know this when we build the
> auto-completion lists). Otherwise we'll not know how to expand a name the
> users type in. But you can always enter a bug and this one should be under
> "Composition" component.
Here is the bug!
I am currently using Mozilla 0.9.8 (Debian Linux 2.2).

It didn't work for me in 0.9.8 on Mac OS X although the nightly build 0.9.9 +
2002030808 does not have this problem. Address book lists are working in this
build.

OK, now this is getting strange! One of my lists works (created in 0.9.9+) and
the other doesn't (created in 0.9.8).

I found that lists do work if you do not enter a description. Descriptions are
taken by the server in place of the addresses of the list. However, I also
uncovered another bug. The address book e-mail lists duplicate the addresses
inside them multiple times. Each address is shown 5+ times in one list.
Should this be entered as a new bug (or has it been reported)?
