There should be a UI interface to add and delete printers from printer list so that non-advanced users don't have to hand edit preferences or set environment variables. A button on the initial print dialog to "Add/Delete" or "Manage" printers would be most helpful, even if the same tasks can also be accomplished in the preference manager.

The patch for bug 193001 rendered this moot. The GTK printing system detects printers on its own.
