Steps to reproduce:
Open Thunderbird (with accounts set up already), wait for password dialogue
In Ubuntu amd64 packages, this exists in 1:31.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.15.04.1 but not in 1:31.6.0+build1-0ubuntu1. Problem exists in current 38.1.0 release downloaded from mozilla site.
Actual results:
Shows [user]@[server]: Connected to [mail server]... as status, indefinitely. Does not ask for password
Expected results:
Password dialogue

If you can give basic parameters of your server (URL, protocol, port, and connection security) we can test it, but without more information there is little that we can do.
