Reproducible with:
* latest 42.0a1 Nightly
* latest 41.0a2 Aurora
* Firefox 40.0RC build 4
* Firefox 39.0.3

Reproduced on:
* Windows 7 64-bit
* Windows 8.1 32-bit
* Windows 10 64-bit
* Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit
* Mac OS X 10.9.5

STR:
1. Open Firefox.
2. Enter any search term in the search bar.
3. Delete the entered characters, one by one.

Expected Results:
Search terms are properly deleted and the search suggestions are updated correctly.

Actual Results:
The search suggestion panel flickers when the last character is deleted.

Notes:
This *does not* reproduce if any other character (except the last one) is deleted.
This issue is not a regression, it reproduces back to Firefox 4.

I don't think so... this seems to be different especially because it matters how/where you delete items. It's very strange to me that deleting the last character would cause this flicker and deleting earlier characters doesn't.

Florian, any idea what's going on here?

I's exactly the same in the locationbar, I think it's related to the autocomplete widget itself.

No idea, but like Marco, I think to debug this one would need to look at what happens in the autocomplete widget code.

To be honest, I've seen this behavior for so long that I don't notice it as a bug anymore, unless I'm paying specific attention to it.
