Details

Some time after bug 1127441 turned off font inflation by default, font inflation stopped working. We should get it working and then fix bug 1179020, or if we decide to remove the functionality, un-WONTFIX bug 1193486.

I've kept it enabled all the time after this was turned off by default and it's not any worse than before and still working relatively fine - although compared with Chrome, our implementation could still use a little more polishing.
