Steps to reproduce:
Hi,
I noticed a nice feature in squirrelmail this morning. If you are quick searching the "Inbox," the default address field is "From:," because almost all of the To: will be your own email address; and when you switch from searching the Inbox to searching the Sent, it changes the search to look in the "To:" address field. In Thunderbird, every time I have to do this manually.

Yeah, we lost that feature somewhere along the way.
Not sure if this is really a problem, searching both might to the trick in many cases.
