User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.0
Build ID: 20150812163655

Steps to reproduce:

Reproducible: wait for auto-update restart popup to show up. Since 40.0.0 up to 40.0.3 it comes up empty.

It happens both with Firefox just started (i.e., only a few open tabs, consuming 500MB memory) and when started for a while (consuming 2GB or more memory).

Actual results:

See screenshot. The Firefox popup to restart first shows totally empty. When I give it focus, the "Restart Firefox" button appears. After a while, the "Restart Later" appears.

If I leave it open for a few days, sometimes, at some point, it shows the normal content (i.e., the instruction image).

Expected results:

Screen with filled Firefox instruction and dialog.

In FF 41.0 this still happens, see new screenshot, name ending v41.

Actually, re-reading this bug, I should probably double-check before duping it off.

Reporter, do you see this only after bringing your machine out of the lock state?

Thanks for getting back to me.

With the one-before-last update I saw this behavior again. My machine (Win7, 64 bit, 48GB mem) was not in the locked state.

In hindsight I think it may have been caused by a hiccup in my connection, provided that the text in the screen is loaded from an online resource. This would explain why sometimes after leaving the screen floating around a while, the visual text comes back.

Once I noticed a typical WM_PAINT redrawing issue: when hovering the mouse over it, parts became visible. When clicking the title bar, the whole became visible.

In all cases the initial popup was popped under, i.e., it was not the top-most window of my working area, it was covered by other applications.

If you need any more info, feel free to ask ;).

This has been seen with different user interfaces. Marking as duplicate of an older bug for the same issue. This will be fixed when this user interface is removed in bug 893505.
