If the new tab page is all thumbs and you start resizing it in various directions, you'll get scroll bars on the right side.
This didn't happen with the XUL new tab page. Scroll bars should never appear (and thumbs should not be cut in half)
It happens primarily when you size the window smaller.

I think the scrollbars were added on bug 1180387 and they are meant to appear so you always see 3 rows on the new tab page (or whatever is the value you have set for 'browser.newtabpage.rows' on about:config)

What a horrible decision. The new tab looks klunky now.
